One 60-day cruise around the Land Down Under was terminated in the wake of the fatal incident of an older lady who was left behind by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The passenger had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner left without her and came back later that day after the personnel became aware the woman was missing.

A large-scale search operation located her body the next day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the tragedy, in coordination with police and the medical examiner.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that passengers and personnel on the ship were informed that the continuation of the voyage had been called off due to the "sad loss and previous mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that passengers would be given a total repayment, and said the company was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also issued an latest announcement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" banning any new passengers from entering the vessel.
